Manchester United have reportedly identified RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko as their priority target if they move for a striker during the summer transfer window.
While the Red Devils have already acquired Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for in excess of £130m, they continue to be linked with a number of forwards.
A decision will be made to move for a new frontman if they can find a new club for at least one of Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund before the September 1 deadline.
In recent days, the suggestion has been that Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins is at the top of United's shortlist for a fresh addition in that department.
However, as per David Orstein of The Athletic, United are now more inclined to make an approach for Sesko.
Man United considering upping Sesko interest
The report claims that the 22-year-old has emerged as United's preferred option should they bring in a new number nine.
Sesko has also been linked with a transfer to Newcastle United at a time when the Magpies are likely to be in need of replacing Alexander Isak.
Nevertheless, Man United may be prepared to steal a march on their rivals in order to add another world-class player to their options in the final third.
Informal contact is said to be have been made with RB Leipzig, the Bundesliga giants needing to receive an offer somewhere in the region of £69m and £78m for a sale to be considered.
Leipzig officials have an agreement with the Slovenia international and his representatives that he can leave for a fee in that bracket.
Does Sesko favour Man United move?
As it stands, it appears as though Sesko is still deliberating over his potential options with Man United and Newcastle able to offer different proposals.
Man United are viewed as the bigger club and remain an attractive proposition, but Newcastle are able to offer Champions League football for 2025-26.
Sesko would expect to become first choice at either club having contributed 39 goals and eight assists from 87 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions.
Newcastle will be in a better position to meet Leipzig's demands if they sell Isak, who will realistically cost in the region of £120m and £130m.
