Man United transfer news: "Extremely proud" Senne Lammens complete €21m transfer with contract length confirmed

Man United confirm €21m arrival of Europe's busiest goalkeeper

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Belgian side Royal Antwerp.

Man United were keen to recruit a new goalkeeper before the summer transfer window slammed shut due to concerns over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir's performances.

The Red Devils were linked with a move for Aston Villa shot-stopper, but Jadon Sancho's refusal to join Aston Villa on a permanent transfer reportedly hampered that potential deal.

Man United ultimately settled on Lammens as their primary goalkeeper target, before it was revealed on deadline day that they had reached an agreement with Royal Antwerp over a transfer.

The 20-time English champions have now unveiled Lammens as the newest member of Ruben Amorim's squad, with BBC Sport reporting that the goalkeeper has arrived for an initial €21m (£18.1m) fee plus add-ons.

Lammens signs long-term Man United contract

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract to keep him at Man United until the summer of 2030.

Speaking to Man United's media channels, Lammens explained that he is "extremely proud" to join one of the biggest clubs in world football.

"I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United; it is a real dream come true," Lammens said. "The past few years have been an amazing journey. It’s now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special.

“You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years.

"I cannot wait to get to know my teammates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff. This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.”

Lammens showcased his talents by making 173 saves in the 2024-25 Belgian Pro League last season, which was 20 more than any other goalkeeper in the top 10 leagues in Europe, according to Opta

The Belgian shot-stopper leaves Antwerp after making 64 appearances across all competitons.

Lammens to battle for number one spot

Man United's Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, said that the club have recruited an "excellent goalkeeper with great potential", but while he has room to develop, the club will surely want him to challenge for the number one spot from the outset.

Lammens is set to battle with Onana and Bayindir to be Man United's first-choice goalkeeper, although there is a possibility that a goalkeeper could still depart in the coming weeks.

Onana and Bayindir have both been linked with moves away, and with transfer windows still open in some countries, one of the shot-stoppers could leave if an offer arrives that suits all parties.

Amorim will have to decide whether he throws Lammens into the deep end for the derby clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on September 14.
