Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta says that the Italian giants want to hold of Alexis Sanchez for the remainder of their European campaign.

Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the Italian giants are hoping to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez for the remainder of their Europa League campaign.

As it stands, the Chile international's loan at San Siro is due to expire on August 7, meaning that as well as the remainder of the Serie A season, he will be available to face Getafe in the Europa League.

United are allegedly refusing to extend the agreement as Inter look to advance deep into the European competition, but Marotta is still hopeful that a solution can be reached.

"It's an anomalous issue, considering the Europa League can be changed by the absence of certain players. The situation has not been resolved yet, we are working to at least keep hold of him for the entire Europa League," Marotta told Sky Sports Italia.

The 31-year-old has scored four times and contributed 10 assists in 27 appearances for Inter this season, including four goals and nine assists in 20 Serie A outings.

Sanchez's contract at Old Trafford is due to run until the summer of 2022.
