Tottenham Hotspur will only reportedly allow Jermain Defoe to depart the club in January if they can sign a replacement for the England international.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to MLS outfit Toronto FC, while his former side West Ham United have previously been credited with an interest in his services.
However, his exit will not be sanctioned unless Spurs can secure another striker, with Manchester United frontman Javier Hernandez their number one target, according to the London Evening Standard.
Head coach Andre Villas-Boas was said to have tried to sign the Mexican during the summer, but the deal never materialised. Nevertheless, the report has claimed that the Spurs boss is confident that he can reach an agreement with United next month.
