David de Gea wanted to leave Manchester United following their Europa League final loss to Villarreal, according to a report.

David de Gea reportedly wanted out of Manchester United following their Europa League final loss to Villarreal.

The Spaniard lost his number one jersey in the Premier League to Dean Henderson last term, but he was still given the nod for the continental showpiece event.

However, De Gea failed to stop a single penalty in the shootout and missed his own decisive spot-kick, which cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first piece of silverware in the Man United dugout.

According to The Athletic, De Gea was left inconsolable following the heartbreak against the Yellow Submarine and was ready to call time on his Old Trafford career there and then.

However, the report adds that the Spaniard held positive talks with Solskjaer afterwards and affirmed his intentions to remain with the club and fight for his place in between the sticks.

De Gea was called up to the Spain squad for Euro 2020 but did not play a single minute, and he is reportedly planning to cut his holiday short in a bid to regain the number one spot at United.
