Franz Beckenbauer: 'Bastian Schweinsteiger should stay at Bayern Munich'

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer urges Bastian Schweinsteiger to ignore any interest from Manchester United this summer.

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckebauer has once again urged Bastian Schweinsteiger to resist the temptation to join Manchester United this summer.

Recent reports have suggested that Louis van Gaal is eager to improve his midfield with the signing of Germany's captain, and Bayern are believed to be considering cashing in on the 30-year-old due to the options in their squad.

However, Beckenbauer believes that Schweinsteiger could still play for the Bundesliga champions for another two years.

"Schweinsteiger does not need a challenge like that any more at his age," he told Sky Sport News.

"I would advise him not to make the move to England. He might as well stay here at Bayern.

"Schweinsteiger still has one or two more years at the highest level in him. If he still feels like playing football then, I would advise him to consider a move to MLS and to New York."

Injuries restricted Schweinsteiger to 28 appearances in all competitions last season.
