Team News: Juan Mata makes debut, Wayne Rooney on bench for Manchester United

Juan Mata goes straight into the Manchester United starting lineup for tonight's Premier League game against Cardiff City.

Juan Mata has been put straight into the Manchester United starting lineup for tonight's Premier League game at home to Cardiff City.

The Spaniard is selected alongside the returning Robin van Persie while Wayne Rooney can only make the bench.

It appears that Mata will play in an advanced role behind Van Persie, with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young on the wings.

Visiting Cardiff are led by former United player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who makes plenty of changes from Saturday's FA Cup victory at Bolton Wanderers.

Fraizer Campbell, Craig Noone, Jordan Mutch, Craig Bellamy, Gary Medel and Steven Caulker all return for the visitors.

Man Utd: De Gea; Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Jones, Giggs, Young; Mata, van Persie
Subs: Lindegaard, Cleverley, Fletcher, Januzaj, Kagawa, Hernandez, Rooney

Cardiff: Marshall; McNaughton, Caulker, Hudson, John; Medel, Whittingham; Noone, Mutch, Bellamy; Campbell
Subs: Lewis, Turner, Kim, Eikrem, Gunnarsson, Daehli, Berget
