Casemiro is named on the bench for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Casemiro has been named on the bench for Manchester United's Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The summer arrival from Real Madrid trained alongside his new teammates towards the end of last week, and he has been named among the substitutes at St Mary's.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were all dropped from the XI against Liverpool last time out, and the trio are again on the bench for the clash with Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

Head coach Erik ten Hag has decided to select the same side that took to the field for the first whistle against Liverpool, with the Red Devils running out 2-1 winners over their rivals.

Tyrell Malacia starred at left-back against Jurgen Klopp's team, and the Netherlands international keeps his position at the expense of Shaw, who found it difficult in the opening two games of the campaign.

Raphael Varane came into the team against the Reds, and the France international will again operate alongside Lisandro Martinez in the middle of the defence.

Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes are joined by Scott McTominay in midfield, with the latter managing to keep his spot despite the presence of Casemiro.

Anthony Martial had seemingly been in line to start on Saturday afternoon, having impressed off the bench against Liverpool, but the France international picked up an Achilles issue ahead of the contest.

As a result, Anthony Elanga keeps his spot in the final third of the field alongside Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, with Ronaldo among the substitutes once again.

Fred and Donny van de Beek are also on the bench, while there is a spot for Alejandro Garnacho, who is seemingly set to stay at Old Trafford this summer despite loan interest.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of the contest, Ten Hag said that he wanted to give Casemiro time to adapt to his new club, with the midfielder only arriving in England last Monday.

Victor Lindelof has been declared fit after missing the team's first three games of the season through injury, but the Sweden international is not on the bench for the Red Devils here.

Three of Man United's four summer signings start at St Mary's, while the club are still working on a deal for Ajax attacker Antony despite allegedly failing with their latest bid for the Brazilian.
