Louis van Gaal: "Wait and see" on future

Louis van Gaal tells reporters that he will have to "wait and see" if he keeps his job as manager of Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal has admitted that he is uncertain if he will remain as Manchester United manager following today's 2-0 loss at Stoke City.

The defeat was United's fourth in a row in all competitions and saw them fall to sixth in the Premier League table ahead of the afternoon's other games.

Asked by Sky Sports News if he was still confident that he had the backing of the United board, Van Gaal replied: "It is another situation as we've lost a fourth game, so we'll have to wait and see."

Speaking later at a press conference, the Dutchman hinted that he could decide to leave Old Trafford of his own accord.

"I can also quit by myself, but that is something I discuss with [executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward not you," he said. "It is not always the club that has to fire or sack me.

"Sometimes I do that by myself, but I am the one who wants to speak first with the board of Manchester United and my members of staff and my players, not with you."

Following the defeat in the Midlands, bookmakers Paddy Power paid out on Van Gaal being axed.
