Late Bryan Oviedo strike wins it for Everton against Manchester United

Bryan Oviedo's late effort gives Everton their first win at Old Trafford for 21 years as they beat Manchester United.

Bryan Oviedo's 85th-minute strike gave Everton a famous 1-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening.

The Costa Rican struck late on to give the Blues their first win away to United for 21 years.

Shinji Kagawa had a good chance for United after 20 minutes, but Tim Howard did well to come off his line to close the angle down quickly inside the area.

The Blues struggled to gain hold of possession, but Romelu Lukaku wasted a promising counter-attack when his low cross was easily cut out by Nemanja Vidic with men over at the far post.

Ryan Giggs flashed a header wide of Howard's right-hand post after Rooney had released Rafael to deliver a good cross.

Rooney came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when his shot from the edge of the box hit the post, before Howard cleared the ball while he was on the ground.

Lukaku had the Blues' best effort towards the end of the half when he drilled a lot shot at goal, but David de Gea made the save with his feet.

Tim Howard made an athletic stop to deny Patrice Evra's header from a corner, before the rebound cannoned off the bar from Danny Welbeck.

With the game heading towards stoppage time, Oviedo hit the winner to give Roberto Martinez a famous night in his fledgling career in charge of the Blues.
