Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones make England under-21 squad

Manchester United pair Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones have been called up to England's under-21 squad to face Azerbaijan and Israel in September.

Both players were praised after their side's 3-0 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

The call-ups mean that the players will be unable to play a part in the senior squad's matches against Bulgaria on September 2 and Wales on September 6, as those fixtures take place a day after the under-21 games.

Welbeck already has one senior cap to his name, while Jones has yet to make an appearance for the full side.
