Louis Van Gaal: Anthony Martial will play "at the right time"

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says that 19-year-old striker Anthony Martial will be eased into first-team action following his £36m transfer from Monaco.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that the club's new striker Anthony Martial will be eased into first-team action at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal, who has already stated that the 19-year-old French international was bought for the club's next manager, rejects claims that the forward will be brought into the side immediately and expected to produce instant returns.

"We have to give him time but it's difficult because fans are reading in the media about the money we paid for him, and they think he shall score at once, but it is not like that," the Dutch coach told the club's official website.

"We are living in a crazy world and now we have to pay that kind of money because, otherwise, he would have gone to another club. We bought him because we need a striker in the future.

"Maybe he can show signals of his quality this season. We can build him up and, at the right time, he can enter the game."

The £36m man, who recently gained his first caps for the France senior team, could make his debut in United's clash against Liverpool on Saturday.
