Louis van Gaal: 'Manchester United have bored me'

Louis van Gaal concedes that he is sometimes left "bored" by the displays that his Manchester United side have put in.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that some of his team's performances this season have left him "bored".

The Red Devils have made more passes (11,108) than any of their Premier League counterparts since the opening weekend of the campaign, but 4,417 of those have been played inside their own half.

In terms of goals scored, fifth-placed United have found the net 24 times, which is less than Watford, Everton, Southampton and Chelsea, who sit ninth, 11th, 13th and 14th in the table respectively.

Such statistics have resulted in a host of criticism being aimed at United's Dutch boss, including from the club's ex-midfielder Paul Scholes, who in the wake of the 1-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend described the display as boring.

When asked if he could understand that particular viewpoint, Van Gaal conceded that he had also been left frustrated by his side's failure to break down the opposition.

"There are matches that I have enjoyed very much. Against Chelsea I enjoyed it but the result was 0-0 and we could have lost," the 64-year-old told reporters.

"There are also matches where I'm very bored or angry because we are not disorganising our opponent's defence but that is football. It's not every match that every club is playing fantastically, football that attracts the people."

Tonight Van Gaal will take his men to St James' Park for a Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
