Louis van Gaal: 'Jesse Lingard took his opportunity'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal feels that midfielder Jesse Lingard 'grabbed his chance with both hands' after scoring in the 2-0 win against West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has praised Jesse Lingard after the midfielder netted his first goal for the club in the 2-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion.

Lingard opened the scoring at Old Trafford as United closed the gap on the Premier League leaders to two points, and Van Gaal was impressed with the 22-year-old's contribution against the Baggies.

The Dutchman told BBC Sport: "How Jesse finished was remarkable. In a training session this week he had two chances like this and he shoots at once and I told him he needs to take a touch before the shot, which he did today.

"I give every player a chance – always. When you are in my squad I will give you a chance. He grabbed it with both hands."

Despite the win, United remain in fourth place in the league standings.
