Victor Valdes "happy" to have made Manchester United debut

Manchester United's Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes is "happy" to have made his first appearance for the club.

Victor Valdes has spoken of his happiness following his first outing between the posts for Manchester United.

The former Barcelona goalkeeper agreed an 18-month contract at Old Trafford back in January, but the form produced by number one David de Gea had confined Valdes to a place among the substitutes.

However, De Gea limped off with a hamstring injury during the 1-1 draw with Arsenal yesterday afternoon, which handed Valdes the opportunity to make his debut from the bench.

"It felt very good. David asked to come off very quickly and the next thing I knew I was on the pitch. It was a great feeling to be on the pitch at Old Trafford, the fans welcomed me very well and for that reason I am happy," the 33-year-old told the club's official website.

"I wasn't happy with the result because it wasn't a good one for us. It was a lucky goal for them, but I'm happy I made my debut."

Valdes is now expected to continue to deputise for the final game of the season away at Hull City next weekend.
