Graeme Souness: 'Man Utd beating Liverpool would be biggest upset for six years'

Souness: 'Man Utd win would be big upset'

Pundit Graeme Souness has claimed that Manchester United beating Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon would represent a colossal upset.

Despite just eight matches being played in the top flight this season, Liverpool already hold a 15-point advantage over their fierce rivals.

Such contrasting results has led to Souness suggesting that a victory for the Red Devils would mark the biggest high-profile shock since Wigan Athletic defeated Manchester City in the 2013 FA Cup final.

Speaking to The Times, Souness said: "I'm not saying that for the effect, I'm not saying it because I'm an ex-Liverpool player.

"I'm saying that because that's what all the relevant indicators signify: the strength on paper of the respective squads; the fitness of key players; the fact that Jurgen Klopp knows his best starting XI and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly doesn't; and recent form — eight league wins out of eight for Liverpool, just one win from their past seven for their opponents."

While Liverpool are hoping to regain their eight-point lead at the top of the table, United can move as high as seventh with success at Old Trafford.
