Souness challenges Pogba to 'put his medals on the table'

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has escalated his war of words with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba by challenging the Frenchman to "put your medals on the table".

Souness has been a regular critic of Pogba in recent seasons, and the Frenchman hit back earlier this week by claiming that he "didn't know" who the Scot was.

However, the three-time European Cup winner has responded by suggesting that trophies are the most important thing.

When speaking about Pogba's comments, Souness told Sky Sports News: "I'm happy with that. The oldest thing in football comes to mind - put your medals on the table."

Jamie Carragher also leapt to the defence of Souness, adding: "When you're a player you've got to be respectful certainly of certain players' opinions at different times and you've got to take that criticism on the chin. So to come out and say he'd never heard of Graeme Souness I thought really was below the belt."

Souness won 17 major honours during his playing career, including six top-flight titles and three European Cups, while Pogba has won nine major trophies, although one of those was the World Cup in 2018.
