Paul Scholes: 'Manchester United will not challenge for title next season'

Paul Scholes claims that Manchester United will not be able to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Paul Scholes has claimed that Manchester United will not challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Louis van Gaal looks set to pass his first test by taking the club back to the Champions League, and another busy summer in the transfer market is expected as United look to close the gap on Chelsea.

However, Scholes believes that his former side need to focus on becoming regulars in the top four again before launching a title bid.

"I'd be looking at Champions League again for next year," he told FullTimeDEVILS. "I think it's probably a bit early to challenge for the league.

"We know Chelsea will buy two or three players and you have to say they have been a long way ahead this year.

"Arsenal look good apart from Monday night and if they buy a couple I don't think they will be far away. You have to say City will spend a lot of money as well so there's a lot of catching up to be done."

United host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
