Rumours Ryan Giggs is leaving Manchester United for Celtic 'untrue'

Rumours that Manchester United assistant boss Ryan Giggs is on the verge of becoming Celtic manager are untrue, according to local media.

Rumours that Manchester United assistant boss Ryan Giggs is on the verge of becoming Celtic manager have been quashed by local media.

The Welshman was absent from the dugout at Old Trafford in Tuesday night's 3-0 win over Stoke City.

It was reported that Giggs was not at the game alongside manager Louis van Gaal because of a family illness, but leading bookmaker Betfair tweeted speculation that the retired midfielder could become Celtic boss in the next 48 hours.

However, according to Manchester Evening News, there is no foundation to the rumours and Giggs will not be leaving his coaching role at United.

Ronny Deila is currently in charge of Celtic, but questions were raised over his future when his side lost 3-1 to Ross County in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday.
