Manchester United's Wayne Rooney hails "clever" Mesut Ozil

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has praised "fantastic" Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The 25-year-old has impressed in the Premier League this season since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day.

Rooney will go up against Ozil's nation Germany in an international friendly for England at Wembley tomorrow, but the midfielder will play no part in the clash.

"He's a clever player," the Manchester Evening News quotes Rooney as saying.

"He doesn't stick to one position, he moves along the line. He moves in behind positions in midfield, he can score and assist goals. He's a fantastic player."

Ozil has helped Arsenal to the top of the league table, while Rooney's United sit five points below in fifth.
