Rooney backs Van Persie for PFA award

Wayne Rooney has backed Robin van Persie to win the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

The two strikers are among six nominees for the prestigious accolade, alongside Scott Parker, Sergio Aguero, Joe Hart and David Silva.

Rooney believes that the Dutchman, who has notched 27 league goals for Arsenal this season, is in pole position for the gong.

"It is nice to be nominated," the Manchester United star told MUTV. "But more than likely, Van Persie will win it."

The England international is second, behind Van Persie, in the Premier League scoring charts with 24 goals.
