Bryan Robson: 'Louis van Gaal's training caused injuries at Manchester United'

Brian Robson believes that Louis van Gaal's training methods have caused some of the casualties on the club's injury list.

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has expressed his belief that Louis van Gaal's training methods have contributed to their growing injury list.

Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all suffered muscle injuries this term, while Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are currently sidelined.

United legend Robson thinks that Van Gaal's way of working may have played a part in the number of injuries at the club.

He told talkSPORT: "I think, when you're a coach, you've always got to assess [why they're happening]. Manchester United had a long pre-season and they came back with quite a few injuries.

"Maybe it was because of the travelling and everything they got a lot of muscle injuries early on in the season and I think [Van Gaal] had to adjust his training a little bit but he did want to do double sessions which the players, under Sir Alex Ferguson, were not used to.

"When you're getting a lot of muscle injuries yourself and your staff have definitely got to look at your training and see if you've got to adjust to make sure you can get your best players out on the pitch."

United are currently third in the Premier League having won their last six games.
