Report: Louis van Gaal planning summer Manchester United exit

A report claims that Louis van Gaal is seriously considering quitting as Manchester United manager at the end of the season.

Louis van Gaal could reportedly walk away from Manchester United at the end of the season.

The Dutchman will still have 12 months left to run on his contract at that point, but it is now suggested that he has already considered departing his post as a result of the pressure that has come with the job.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, yet prior to that they went on a nine-game winless streak, which included four straight defeats.

During that run the 64-year-old's playing style and decision making were heavily criticised by supporters and the media, who strongly tipped Jose Mourinho to replace him in the Old Trafford dugout.

Van Gaal has remained in place, though, and it would seem that it is likely to stay that way unless results deteriorate again.

However, according to The Mirror, the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach may step aside in May, despite having previously vowed to see out the three-year deal that he signed in 2014.

The report adds that Van Gaal's departure would clear the way for Mourinho to take charge, with current number two Ryan Giggs unlikely to be offered the role.
