Michael Owen rules out a move to the Championship and wants to continue playing at the highest level following his release by Man United.

Michael Owen has targeted a move to another Premier League club following his release from Manchester United.

The 32-year-old confirmed earlier today that he was leaving Old Trafford after a three-year spell with the Red Devils.

Despite his persistent injury problems, Owen has ruled out dropping down to the second tier of English football because he feels that he is still capable of performing at the highest level.

"The Championship is not an option. I'd like to think I haven't lost the ability to score goals and play at the highest level," he told Sky Sports News.

"If I'm not going to play in the Premier League I may look further afield."

Owen has scored 40 goals in 89 appearances for England during his career.
