Michael Owen dismisses talk that he will retire from football following his release from Manchester United.

Michael Owen has insisted that he will not retire from football following his release from Manchester United.

The former England forward confirmed earlier today that Sir Alex Ferguson had informed him that his contract at Old Trafford would not be renewed.

This led to speculation surrounding Owen's footballing future, but the striker has announced his firm intentions to play on for several more years.

"I'm only 32 and obviously looking at the likes of Scholes and Giggs, they give you motivation and confidence to play on. They are playing into their mid to late thirties," he told Sky Sports News.

"I still feel reasonably young when I wake up. My body feels good, even though I've had a few injuries.

"At 32 I definitely owe it to myself to have another two or three years and hopefully play a bit more for somebody else."

Owen scored 17 goals in 52 appearances during his three years with the Red Devils.
