Jose Mourinho pleased with 'comfortable win'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that he was "pleased" with his team's performance in Friday's 2-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that his team "won comfortably" against Southampton on Friday night, despite the possession and goal attempts statistics favouring the Saints.

Southampton had 57% of the ball possession at Old Trafford, but a double from Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw Man United record a 2-0 win and continue their perfect start to the new Premier League campaign.

Mourinho also reserved special praise for Paul Pogba, who played the full 90 minutes on his second Man United debut after returning to the club this summer for a world-record fee from Juventus.

"It was good enough to deserve the victory. Southampton had moments of ball possession, but they did not create danger. We were always in control and we won comfortably," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

"It is a natural evolution. The way we are playing, the kind of football we are trying to play. We now defend zonal, which is much more different than man-marking. Some players are here for one week, some two weeks, three weeks, four weeks. It is impossible to demand more at the moment. I am pleased.

"Pogba was so good. Everything individually, collectively he is learning. I am really happy with him. He is a player that needs freedom... I could not be happier with him."

Mourinho has now won all three of his competitive matches as head coach of Man United.
