Former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly still hopeful that he will be handed the chance to take over at Manchester United.
The 52-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs since leaving Juve at the end of the 2018-19 campaign but is still without a club in the early stages of 2020.
Allegri's name had been mentioned as a possible replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this season due to the Norwegian's struggles at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer appeared to have steadied the ship, but Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final has led to more speculation surrounding the management position at United.
According to the Daily Mail, Allegri still has his eye on the top job at Old Trafford and has been holding off on an immediate return to management in the hope of joining the club.
Despite United's struggles this term, they are only five points off fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table ahead of this weekend's clash with basement side Norwich City.
