Man United vs. Crystal Palace: Ruben Amorim's side at risk of ending 42-year streak

Man United bidding to avoid ending 42-year streak in Palace game

Manchester United will be bidding to avoid ending a 42-year streak when they face Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim takes his Red Devils squad into the Premier League showdown at Old Trafford currently on his best run of results as head coach.

Just one defeat - at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in the top flight - has been suffered in seven games, an impressive response to ending 2024 with four successive losses.

However, Amorim remains without successive wins in the Premier League and that feat will be up for grabs when welcoming the Eagles to the Theatre of Dreams.

Nevertheless, United head into their upcoming clash at risk of matching an unwanted streak that was last set back in 1983.

What run could be equalled?

United go into this encounter having failed to score in their last three Premier League fixtures against Palace.

As well as the goalless draw at Selhurst Park earlier in the season, United suffered 1-0 and 4-0 defeats in the top flight during 2023-24.

The last time that United went four league games against the same opponent without finding the back of the net was against Arsenal between 1981 and 1983.

Aside from a League Cup tie back in 2023, United have failed to score more than twice in a single game against Palace in their last 11 league fixtures.

Palace have had the better of the last five Premier League games held at Old Trafford, prevailing on three occasions having previously lost 18 of the first 22 such contests.

Palace impressive on their travels

Palace may only sit in 13th place in the Premier League table - two points adrift of United - but their effort in away games is going under the radar.

As many as 16 points have been accumulated from 11 matches, conceding just the 11 goals, while they are bidding to win three successive away fixtures in the Premier League since 2019.

Oliver Glasner's side have not lost an away game in the Premier League since going down 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on October 21.
