Louis van Gaal: 'Manchester United almost always dominant'

Under-fire manager Louis van Gaal believes that Manchester United - winless in eight matches - are "more or less always the dominant team".

Louis van Gaal has claimed that Manchester United are "more or less always the dominant team", despite the club's eight-game winless streak.

Under-fire manager Van Gaal, who reportedly could lose his job if Swansea City win at Old Trafford on Saturday, believes that his side performed excellently in Monday's goalless draw with struggling defending Premier League champions Chelsea.

"We've had many games like that," the Dutchman told reporters. "The way we've played this season, we're more or less always the dominant team. The way we played, under that pressure and in the style we want to play, was fantastic."

Van Gaal also believes that, ignoring the club's form in December when they lost four in a row before Monday's goalless draw with Chelsea, they have had a "very good year".

"We have fulfilled the wish and our aim in the first season that ended halfway through 2015," he added.

"After that we have managed to give balance to the team and that resulted in October and November in us being first in the Premier League.

"Then we are out of the Champions League and that gives us a big blow, and we are still in that period, so when you don't assess December, it was a very good year."

Halfway through the Premier League season, United are sixth in the table, nine points behind the pace being set by Arsenal and Leicester City.
