Louis van Gaal 'I have support of Manchester United board'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal reveals that he has been given support by Ed Woodward, Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill as speculation surrounding his future grows.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that he has the support of the club's board as speculation surrounding his future continues to grow.

Various reports over the last couple of days have claimed that the Dutchman is on the verge of being sacked as head coach after failing to lead the Red Devils to a win in any of their last six matches in all competitions.

During a short press conference on Wednesday, Van Gaal revealed that Ed Woodward, Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill had all been in contact amid the speculation and he also said that his current focus is on the Boxing Day clash with Stoke City.

"You have to stick by the facts and when I get calls from Ed Woodward, Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill, because you are creating something that is not good, that is not being the facts, and now I have to answer questions. I don't think I want to do it," he told reporters.

"We are not in a good position but four weeks ago we were in first place and in about four weeks we can again be in that position again. I am focused on Stoke City. I wish you a Merry Christmas and also maybe a Happy New Year when I see you. Enjoy the wine and mince pies."

Jose Mourinho has been strongly linked with the managerial position at Old Trafford, but the Portuguese's agent Jorge Mendes has denied that there has been contact between the two parties.
