Juan Mata: 'Manchester United must fight for titles this season'

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata insists that the club's supporters "deserve" to see their side win the Premier League trophy this coming season.

Juan Mata has challenged his Manchester United teammates to up their game this coming season in order to push for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils fell well short of that target last time out, finishing 17 points adrift of runaway champions Chelsea.

However, Louis van Gaal has gone about rebuilding his squad this summer by splashing out around £70m on new faces, which Mata believes could be enough to support the Red Devils' title bid.

"We all believe that we need to do one more step forward and try to fight for the title because that's what this club means - fighting for trophies," Sky Sports News quotes the Spaniard as saying.

"It's the pressure this club always has. We know that we have to be fighting for titles. We feel this is what the fans deserve because it's amazing how they support us. We want to do it for them, and hopefully this season we'll do it."

United begin their 2015-16 Premier League campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 8.
