Dennis Irwin: 'Matteo Darmian, Memphis Depay gone off the boil'

Dennis Irwin feels that Manchester United duo Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay will get back to their best following a testing few months.

Manchester United legend Dennis Irwin has claimed that Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay will get back to their best despite 'going off the boil' in recent months.

Both players enjoyed high-profile starts to their Red Devils careers following summer moves from Torino and PSV Eindhoven, before suffering rough patches as of late.

Right-back Darmian has been regularly rotated in and out of the side, while Depay has not started a Premier League game since the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on October 4, when he was withdrawn at half time.

"Darmian came in and started fantastically well, but I think when you are getting used to the Premier League you sometimes go off the boil," Irwin told the Manchester Evening News.

"As Memphis Depay has as well, you go off the boil a little bit, but they'll come back stronger."

United sit fourth in the league table ahead of Saturday's trip to Watford.
