Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right person to lead the club forward in the long term.

Ander Herrera has admitted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is his preferred candidate to become Manchester United's new permanent manager.

The Norwegian has worked wonders at Old Trafford during his two-and-a-half months in caretaker charge, winning 13 of his first 16 matches.

Herrera has played a huge part in United's turnaround from the poor form shown in the first half of the season under Jose Mourinho, when his own future at the club was called into question.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the 29-year-old explained that he would look no further than Solskjaer for the full-time job if he were in charge of making the decision.

"It's not my business and I respect the decisions of the people that work for the club," he said. "All I can say is that if I was sporting director of a club tomorrow, I would sign Ole. But I respect the people that take the decisions and I'm not going to say what they should do.

"Ole has a quality that is difficult to have in football, which is to have the affection of all the players - the players who play and the ones who don't play as much."

Herrera had played in 12 of United's 14 matches under Solskjaer prior to being struck down by a hamstring injury against Liverpool, which has ruled him out indefinitely.
