Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra claims that he urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to hand Brandon Williams a first-team role.

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has claimed that he urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to hand a first-team opportunity to Brandon Williams.

The youngster made his debut for the Red Devils in September and has since become an important member of Solskjaer's squad, featuring on 22 occasions in all competitions.

The 19-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in United's last two matches against Chelsea and Club Brugge, meanwhile, and Evra has revealed that he was quick to recognise the Englishman's talent.

"I'm doing my coaching badges at Manchester United, I go like two weeks per month to do my course, and someone sent me a video about Brandon,' Evra told COPA90. "I was watching it and was like "wow, he has got something I really love".

"I went to training and actually he was with the U21s, and they made me do a session as well with the U21s. So, I saw him, and he was tough, and after the training session I went with the first-team and I saw Ole. I said "Ole, do you know about that kid Brandon Williams?" "Yeah, they say he is good".

"I said "trust me Ole, since I left I can see he can play, he can play at left back." I said "please give him a chance"."

Williams has largely featured at left-back for United this season but has recently been used as a left-sided wing-back as part of a 3-4-1-2 formation.
