Manchester United's Michael Carrick: 'We aim to be challenging on all fronts'

Michael Carrick insists that Manchester United can challenge on "all fronts" this season thanks to the new additions to the squad.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has insisted that he and his teammates hope to be in contention for the Premier League title and Champions League trophy this season.

The Red Devils finished fourth last season, 17 points behind champions Chelsea.

The North-West outfit also spent the 2014-15 campaign without any European football as they dropped to seventh in the previous season under former manager David Moyes.

This time around, Carrick believes that with Louis van Gaal's new additions, including Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero, the team can be fighting for all silverware available.

"We want to be challenging on all fronts," Carrick told the club's official website. "We want to be going for the Champions League, we want to be challenging for the league title and to do that you need a big squad, and strength in key areas. It is good that the club has made these key additions and given us a chance to have a good season."

Reports have claimed that Van Gaal will try to bring two more new faces to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on September 1.
