Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has bemoaned his side's current Premier League position after taking just 13 points from 10 games.
The Red Devils, who finished seventh last season, are currently 10th in the league table, 13 points behind leaders Chelsea, but just four points behind a Champions League spot.
After Sunday's 1-0 defeat to local rivals Manchester City, which included the sending-off of defender Chris Smalling, United recorded their worst start to a season since 1986.
"Our points tally is very disappointing because it is nowhere near good enough for us," the Manchester Evening News quotes Carrick as saying. "But at the same time there are signs that we believe things can come good.
"We have shown some good signs. We are disappointed after [the City result] but not disheartened."
United's next game is against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.
