Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirms club were looking to sign Erling Braut Haaland, although a move for Cristiano Ronaldo was not an option.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that the club were interested in signing Erling Braut Haaland, although Cristiano Ronaldo was not considered by the club.

After scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, Haaland made the move to Manchester City in the summer where he has scored nine goals in the club's opening five Premier League games.

While City managed to secure the signing of Haaland, the Norway international was linked with a number of Europe's biggest clubs, including Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern's sporting director has confirmed that they were interested in the 22-year-old.

Salihamidzic said: "We were in talks, but it became clear that things might not work out that way for both sides. That's why he's at Manchester City now and that's why we have other players."

Meanwhile, the Bayern chief has stated that the club were never considering a move for Cristiano Ronaldo despite admitting that he regularly talks to the player's Jorge Mendes.

Commenting on whether he felt sorry for Ronaldo, Salihamidzic stated: "He's an incredibly big personality. A big player who has made his mark on the world of football in recent years.

"It wasn't an option for us because we were doing other things and before that we organized our offensive in such a way that they, but you don't have to feel sorry for him. He's a great footballer who has achieved great things in recent years."

Salihamidzic was speaking following the transfer deadline, with Bayern finishing the summer window with five new additions, including Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt from Liverpool and Juventus respectively.
