Sports Mole takes a closer look at Manchester United's 3-1 win over QPR at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Queens Park Rangers headed into Saturday's Premier League encounter at Manchester United with Harry Redknapp being named as their new manager just hours before kickoff.

Redknapp wasn't in charge of the side for the match, but he was in the stands to see Jamie Mackie give the R's the lead.

However, three goals in eight minutes helped send United to the top of the table and condemn bottom-placed Rangers to their ninth defeat of the campaign.

Sports Mole takes a closer look at the 90 minutes from the Theatre of Dreams.

Was the result fair?

Just about. United offered little in attacking flair during the first half but they looked a different team once the first goal went in. QPR gave a very good account of themselves and it was no real surprise when they took the lead, but there's still plenty of work to be done for them to climb the table.

Man Utd's performance

The hosts were woeful during the opening hour, but the introductions of Javier Hernandez and Anderson changed everything. Once they pulled that first goal back there was only going to be one winner.

QPR's performance

Harry Redknapp will be encouraged by what he saw at Old Trafford as the R's attacked with menace and defended with tenacity. However, it was a lack of concentration that cost them coming away from Old Trafford with at least a point.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Darren Fletcher: The Scot's health problems look to be a thing of the past as he gave a no-nonsense display in midfield. He was superb at breaking down QPR counter-attacks and distributing the ball simply but effectively. He was also able to cap a fine performance with his first goal in a year.

Biggest gaffe of the game

With the visitors leading 1-0, Djibril Cisse had the chance to play in an unmarked Jamie Mackie following a counter-attack. However, the striker opted to be selfish and his poor effort at goal was blocked.

Referee performance

Lee Probert did his best to keep the cards in his pocket but Paul Scholes put an end to that. Otherwise it was an unfussy showing from the official.

What next?

Man Utd: The Red Devils are back in action in the league on Wednesday when they welcome West Ham United to Old Trafford.

QPR: All eyes will be on the R's on Tuesday as Harry Redknapp takes charge of the side for the first time when they visit Sunderland in the league.
