Marcus Rashford becomes the first Manchester United player since Dennis Viollet in 1959 to score in nine successive matches at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford became the first Manchester United player since Dennis Viollet in 1959 to score in nine successive matches at Old Trafford when he registered in Saturday's Manchester derby.

The England international came up with the winning goal in the 82nd minute of the contest, converting a low cross from Alejandro Garnacho to send the Red Devils into a 2-1 lead.

The 25-year-old has now scored 16 goals and registered six assists in 26 appearances in all competitions for Man United during the 2022-23 campaign.

Rashford has netted in each of his seven appearances at club level since the 2022 World Cup, and his goal against Man City saw him equal a 64-year record.

The forward has now scored in nine successive matches at Old Trafford, registering against Sheriff Tiraspol, West Ham United, Aston Villa, Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Everton, Charlton Athletic and Man City, which equals the club record held by Viollet from 1959.

"It is an amazing feeling." Rashford told MUTV after the win over Pep Guardiola's side.

"[In the] second-half, going and playing towards that Stretford End, when you are tired and you are in pain and you are suffering, you want to be going towards that Stretford End, 100 percent.

"Because they keep you going and when you have an opportunity or get close to [City's] goal, they are screaming and shouting and it really does give you a lift.

"So, we are pleased we got the win for the fans, and to do it in the Stretford End just makes it a little bit more special.

"It is important to keep the pressure on. When you are going up, facing the Stretford End and they can feel that pressure, there is a presence there.

"And when the ball went in the back of the net it was just an amazing feeling and to do it at the Stretford End, there is nothing that really beats it.

"It's a massive game. It was important for us to win this game. One, it keeps the momentum going and two it is a big game for the fans. It will do a lot for us.

"We have obviously shown progression since we last faced them. So to get the win today solidifies that, and hopefully we can keep going as a team and that was what it was today.

"I think they played better than us. They were a lot better on the ball. But we stuck together and we suffered out there on the pitch and we did that as a team and we got the win in the end."

Rashford recently had his contract at Old Trafford extended until June 2024, but the club are in discussions with him over a new long-term deal.
