Team News: Luke Shaw named on Manchester United bench for EFL Cup tie against Burton

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw returns to the squad on the bench for tonight's EFL Cup tie against Burton Albion.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has been selected as a substitute for this evening's EFL Cup third-round tie against Burton Albion at Old Trafford.

There were rumblings that the England international would make his first start of the season since recovering from injury, but manager Jose Mourinho has opted to leave him out of the first XI.

With Saturday's Premier League game against Southampton coming up, the Portuguese coach has rested David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Sergio Romero starts in goal, while Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind occupy the full-back spots, with Chris Smalling partnering summer signing Victor Lindelof.

Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera will marshall the midfield, with Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial providing support to Marcus Rashford.

Meanwhile, Nigel Clough has had a fit squad at his disposal, aside from Will Miller, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, while John Brayford is cup-tied.

Manchester United: Romero; Darmian, Lindelof, Smalling, Blind; Carrick, Herrera; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Rashford
Subs: Pereira, Jones, Shaw, Young, McTominay, Fellaini, Lukaku

Burton Albion: Ripley; Flanagan, Turner, Naylor, Lund, Dyer, Allen, Palmer, Mason, Varney, Akpan
Subs: Campbell, Warnock, McFadzean, Murphy, Akins, Sordell, Scannell
