Manchester United interim head coach Erik ten Hag confirms that Anthony Martial will again be unavailable against Brentford on Saturday.

Manchester United interim head coach Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial will again be unavailable for selection in Saturday's Premier League clash with Brentford.

The France international was in strong form for the Red Devils during pre-season and had been in line to start the team's 2022-23 opener against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

However, the attacker was absent due to a hamstring issue, and Ten Hag said during Friday's press conference that the former Monaco youngster would not be able to return against the Bees.

The Man United head coach also revealed that Victor Lindelof would remain on the sidelines, with the Sweden international suffering a knock in training ahead of the Brighton clash.

"Martial will not be available and Victor Lindelof as well, not for this weekend," Ten Hag told reporters.

The Red Devils will also again be without Facundo Pellistri, with the Uruguay international expected to be on the sidelines until at least the start of September due to an ankle issue.

Brandon Williams was also absent during pre-season due to an undisclosed issue, while Mason Greenwood remains suspended by the 20-time English champions.

Cristiano Ronaldo featured as a second-half substitute against Brighton last weekend amid the speculation surrounding his future, and the Portugal international is now in contention to start against Brentford.

"So he had a good training week. I thought he played a little bit longer than half an hour, he's had two half games and for the starting XI we will see tomorrow. My decision (on whether he starts), I keep it," said Ten Hag when asked about Ronaldo's involvement.

The 37-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Man United, as he is desperate to continue playing in the Champions League during the 2022-23 campaign.

Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen both made their debuts for the Red Devils as starters against Brighton, while fellow new arrival Tyrell Malacia came off the bench in the final exchanges.

Man United are now under pressure to bounce back against Brentford, who opened their 2022-23 campaign with a 2-2 draw with Leicester City last weekend.

"I know there is always pressure, I have the experience, how it is, I know we have to win every game, I know the fans, I know everyone expects Manchester United to win every game, we have to deal with that and all I can do is prepare the team as well as I can this weekend," Ten Hag added.

"Every game is hard. Really good (team), same as last week, Brighton, they have a team and coach long together and a good structure. We have to win."

Man United will follow the trip to Brentford with clashes against Liverpool and Southampton before opening September with a trip to Leicester City.
