Manchester United's Bastian Schweinsteiger hopes to be 100% fit within next week

Bastian Schweinsteiger hopes to be "100% fit" for Manchester United within the next week.

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed that he hopes to return to full fitness within the next week.

The German World Cup winner picked up a calf problem during the Red Devils' pre-season tour in the USA.

The 31-year-old played half an hour of last weekend's 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, but doubts over his long-term fitness rose when Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola revealed that Schweinsteiger has not been fully fit for three years.

The midfielder spent 17 years at Bayern before joining United this summer in a transfer worth a reported £14m.

"[My calf is] fine," Schweinsteiger told MUTV. "I had three or four days in America where I had this injury and it was not so good for my rhythm.

"Now I feel much better and also the game was very important to play 30 minutes. The training sessions are very important for me, too. I'm getting better and I hope I will be 100% fit in the next week."

United will take on Aston Villa away on Friday.
