Shaw, Mainoo, Amad updates: Man United injury, suspension news vs. Man City

Manchester United will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for the latest instalment of the Manchester derby.

Ruben Amorim's side will enter the match off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, with the result leaving them 13th in the Premier League table, boasting 37 points from 30 matches this season.

Man United will not be securing Champions League football for next term through the Premier League, but they could qualify for Europe's leading competition by winning the Europa League.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man United's injury and suspension news ahead of their contest with Man City, who are fourth in the table, one point ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle United.

Lisandro Martinez

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Martinez suffered a severe knee injury during Man United's Premier League match against Crystal Palace on February 2, and the Argentina international, who has undergone an operation, is expected to be on the sidelines for the remainder of 2025.

Luke Shaw

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: April 6 (vs. Man City)

Shaw has only made three appearances this season due to ongoing injury problems - the England international is now back in training, but it remains to be seen if he is cleared to return to the squad for the Manchester derby.

Jonny Evans

Status: Out Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: Unknown

Experienced centre-back Evans is not currently available for selection due to a muscular problem.

Kobbie Mainoo

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: April 6 (vs. Man City)

Mainoo picked up a calf injury in training last month, but the midfielder is back in training and has a chance of being in the squad for the Manchester derby.

Amad Diallo

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: May 3 (vs. Brentford)

Amad suffered an ankle injury during a training session in February, which had seemingly ended this season, but it is understood that the attacker could be back on the field at the start of May.

Ayden Heaven

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

The ankle injury that Heaven suffered against Leicester City before the international break is not as serious as first feared, and the centre-back will be back before the end of the season.

Matthijs de Ligt

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Knock Possible return date: April 6 (vs. Man City)

De Ligt requires an assessment ahead of Sunday's fixture, as the Netherlands international picked up a knock during the clash with Forest last time out.
