Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture against Southampton.

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a fixture against Southampton at St Mary's.

While the Red Devils remain down in 10th position in the table, they only sit seven points adrift of leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has witnessed his side win their last three matches in all competitions, the latest being a convincing 4-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up United's injury and suspension news ahead of the clash on the South Coast.

Phil Jones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Jones has not featured for United since January due to a long-term knee problem, and the Englishman could have played his last game for the club, having been left out of both their Premier League and Europa League squads.

Eric Bailly

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Southampton)

Bailly could be back in contention at the weekend after spending a number of weeks on the sidelines with a muscular injury. However, the Ivorian would only be named among the replacements at best after Axel Tuanzebe featured in midweek.

Jesse Lingard

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Coronavirus
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Southampton)

Lingard has been self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus. While the Englishman may be able to return to training in the coming days, he is unlikely to play any part at St Mary's.

Luke Shaw

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: December 12 (vs. Manchester City)

Shaw remains on the sidelines with the hamstring injury that he picked up against Everton before the international break, and the defender is not expected to return until the middle of December.

Victor Lindelof

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Southampton)

Lindelof's ongoing back issues have been well documented in recent weeks, and Solskjaer took the decision to substitute the centre-back at half time on Tuesday night. Although the Sweden international is expected to be fit on Sunday, he will have to pass a fitness test.

Paul Pogba

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Southampton)

Pogba has missed the two last matches with an ankle injury sustained on international duty. While the Frenchman could come back into contention for the weekend, Solskjaer is unlikely to hand him a starting role.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Southampton)

Solskjaer revealed after Tuesday's fixture that Wan-Bissaka was dealing with a minor ankle issue, which led to his second-half withdrawal. Like with Lindelof, it would come as a surprise if the right-back did not feature in the squad on Sunday.

Scott McTominay

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Unknown
Possible return date: November 29 (vs. Southampton)

Solskjaer revealed on Friday that McTominay was highly unlikely to feature at the weekend having not been deemed fit enough to train with the rest of the squad.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S SUSPENSION LIST

United have no suspension issues ahead of this fixture.
