Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Chelsea

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Manchester United host the clash of the Premier League's opening weekend as they take on Frank Lampard's Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side enjoyed the perfect pre-season, claiming six wins from as many games during their tour of Australia and Asia.

The Red Devils will also be bolstered by the world-record arrival of Harry Maguire, who joined from Leicester City for £80m this week.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's hotly-anticipated meeting with the Blues.

Eric Bailly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: December 21 (vs. Watford)

Seemingly a perennial member of the injury table, Bailly once again received a severe blow during a pre-season match with Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai, with the Ivorian suffering a meniscus injury which required surgery. It was confirmed soon after that the defender would miss five months of action.

Paul Pogba

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: August 11 (vs. Chelsea)

The Frenchman played an instrumental role for United throughout pre-season but missed last week's meeting with AC Milan due to suffering a back spasm in training. Solskjaer has since stated that he expects him to recover in time for Chelsea.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Fosu-Mensah endured a difficult 2018-19 campaign on loan at Fulham, where he picked up a severe knee injury in April against Everton. The Dutchman, who underwent surgery, has since returned to Carrington and remains in the early stages of his rehabilitation process.

Alexis Sanchez

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Fitness
Possible return date: Unknown

Sanchez missed the end of last season with a hamstring injury but recovered in time to star for Chile in the Copa America over the summer. However, he only returned to training a couple of weeks ago and is yet to resume training with the United squad, rendering a place in the matchday squad for Chelsea highly unlikely.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S SUSPENSION LIST

United have no players who are suspended for this weekend's game.
