Man United injury, suspension news vs. Newcastle: Latest on Matthijs de Ligt, Toby Collyer

De Ligt, Collyer update: Man United injury, suspension news vs. Newcastle

Manchester United will travel to St James' Park for Sunday's tricky Premier League meeting with Champions League-chasing Newcastle United.

The Red Devils will have one eye on next week's Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon after they played out a 2-2 draw in Thursday's meeting in France.

Ruben Amorim will hope that his team can warm up for the return European fixture by ending a three-game winless run in their Premier League game against a Newcastle side that have won four competitive matches in a row.

Man United are out of European contention in the Premier League, sitting in 13th place with just 38 points to their name after 31 matches.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man United's injury and suspension news ahead of their clash against the Magpies, who currently occupy sixth place in the standings.

Matthijs de Ligt

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

De Ligt has missed Man United's last two matches after he appeared to sustain an ankle injury in Man United's defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier this month. Speaking ahead of Thursday's draw with Lyon, Amorim admitted that he was unsure when the Dutchman would return to action.

Toby Collyer

Status: Out Type of injury: Leg Possible return date: Unknown

Collyer has been absent from the last three matchday squads. Amorim confirmed on Wednesday that the 21-year-old has a leg problem, which is expected to keep him out of action for a "few weeks".

Ayden Heaven

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

The injury that Heaven picked up before the international break is not as bad as originally feared, with Amorim confident the youngster will be return to the fold before the end of the season.

Lisandro Martinez

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Martinez has been unavailable since he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in February's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. It typically takes around six months to recover from such a serious injury, meaning that the Argentine is likely to be out until at least the latter stages of the year.

Amad Diallo

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

Diallo has played since featuring in Man United's FA Cup win over Leicester City on February 7. It was initially thought that he would miss the remainder of the season, but there is hope that he could still have a role to play in the 2024-25 campaign.

Jonny Evans

Status: Out Type of injury: Muscle Possible return date: Unknown

Evans remains sidelined with a muscle problem that has kept him out of action since December. It is currently unclear when the experienced defender will be ready to come back into the matchday squad.

Man United have no players suspended for the trip to St James' Park.
