Wayne Rooney "gutted" with FA Cup exit

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits that he is devastated by his side's defeat to Arsenal in their FA Cup quarter-final clash at Old Trafford.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has conceded that he is "gutted" to have been knocked out of the FA Cup following his side's defeat to Arsenal.

Rooney netted a first-half equaliser for Louis van Gaal's men after Nacho Monreal had fired the Gunners ahead.

However, former United striker Danny Welbeck came back to haunt his old club as he netted the winner to send Arsene Wenger's side through to the last four of the competition.

"Arsenal made it difficult for us and defended well," Rooney told MUTV. "Obviously, it was a mistake and they happen in football.

"We have to dust ourselves down and get ready for Sunday but we're gutted about the result."

United have failed to win the FA Cup since the 2003-04 season.
