Neil Kilkenny eyes Manchester United scalp in FA Cup

Preston midfielder Neil Kilkenny is hopeful of springing a major upset when his side welcome Manchester United to Deepdale in the FA Cup fifth round next week.

Preston North End midfielder Neil Kilkenny has set his sights on upsetting the odds when his side welcome Manchester United to Deepdale in the fifth round of the FA Cup next week.

Preston came from behind to beat cup specialists Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane last night, setting up the glamour tie with the Red Devils, who themselves needed a replay to overcome League Two's Cambridge United.

Kilkenny was part of the Leeds United side that famously beat Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United at Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Cup in 2010, and he is hoping to spring a similar shock this season.

"We went there and no one really expected much. We were confident going into the game, with the same manager [Simon Grayson] we have got here. He let us play and we went out there and showed what we could do," Kilkenny told reporters.

"We took 8,000 fans and it was a fantastic day. We knew we had a good team at the time. We went into the game in very good form and we knew we could go in with confidence and no fear. No-one outside the club was expecting anything, but we believed in ourselves and passed the ball well.

"It was a massive upset and hopefully we can do it again this time. Hopefully we show no fear. No one will be expecting much from us, but we know we have got a good team so we are all looking forward to it. Deepdale will be full and we will all be looking forward to it. Hopefully we can play with no fear like we did against Sheffield United."

Manchester United have not won the FA Cup since 2004 but are yet to play a team above League One in this season's competition.
