Shola Shoretire makes history for Manchester United

Shola Shoretire made history for Manchester United when he came off the bench in the Red Devils' 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men boasting a 4-0 lead from their last-32 first leg, some supporters expected the United manager to hand starts to one or both of Shoretire and Amad Diallo during Thursday's game at Old Trafford.

However, Solskjaer opted to start both players on the bench as he fielded a relatively strong first XI, although Shoretire made his European debut off the bench in the final 15 minutes, replacing Mason Greenwood.

By featuring in the Europa League at the age of 17 years and 23 days, Shoretire became the youngest player ever to pull on the Man United jersey in European competition.

Former Red Devils striker Norman Whiteside was the previous record holder, and Diallo also got a run out at The Theatre of Dreams as he replaced the injured Daniel James on the hour mark.

Shoretire made his Premier League debut last weekend when he featured as a substitute against Newcastle United, but he may find it hard to earn some more minutes this Sunday against Chelsea.
