Paul Scholes: 'I could have played for England at Euro 2012'

Scholes could have made England return

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has hinted that he could have made himself available for selection for England at Euro 2012.

Scholes retired from professional football last summer but was persuaded to return to action in January by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 37-year-old was overlooked by England boss Roy Hodgson for the European Championship, and Scholes has now admitted that he could have played for his country in Poland and Ukraine if asked to.

"I wasn't offered the chance," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

When asked if he would have rejected the offer, Scholes stated: "I've no idea. It was flattering to be talked about. But I wasn't asked, so it means nothing."

England reached the quarter-finals at Euro 2012 before losing out to Italy on penalties.
